Employee Rights – Landmark Settlement Achieved
A landmark class-action lawsuit brought on behalf of about 400 workers against four Los Angeles carwashes has resulted in a settlement of $1 million to compensate employees for unpaid wages and other employment violations, was announced today by Bet Tzedek Legal Services and Bush Gottlieb Singer, et al., who jointly prosecuted the case. The agreement is believed to be the largest monetary settlement to date with a carwash employer in California. Read More
Cy Pres Awards Support Bet Tzedek
As a regular component of Bet Tzedek’s annual revenues, cy pres awards play a significant role in the underwriting of the vital programs and services we provide to low-income, elderly, and/or disabled community members who come to Bet Tzedek seeking assistance. These awards have allowed us to expand the reach of our Employee Rights project, Housing project, Consumer Rights programs, and Conservatorship Clinics. In addition, cy pres awards support the work we do in providing numerous other direct services and educational offerings. Bet Tzedek is very grateful to the attorneys and law firms who proffer the agency as a potential recipient of residual funds in the various class action lawsuits in which they are involved.

Stan Levy & Holocaust Survivor Services
This year, Bet Tzedek’s Annual Gala dinner will, in part, be honoring our in-house attorneys involved in our Holocaust Survivors Services Unit along with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. As an integral part of the agency’s mission, providing services to survivors so that they may live out their lives in dignity, has been a driving force in Bet Tzedek co-founder Stan Levy’s professional and personal life.
