Kids in Need

Every child deserves a safe, stable home. Nearly 300,000 children in California, and more than 86,000 children in  Los Angeles County live with a relative or friend in charge of their care because they have parents who cannot or will not properly care for them. Bet Tzedek steps in to help other family members step up for these kids. Together, we keep kids with family and out of foster care, homeless shelters, and deportation proceedings.

Kinship Care

In California, more than 300,000 grandparents are the primary caregivers to their grandchildren. When family steps in, the law needs to catch up. The Kinship Care Project helps clients petition for guardianship, secure custody, apply for public benefits, secure special benefits for children with disabilities, make education and medical decisions, and obtain health care coverage.

Immigrant Child Advocacy Project

Bet Tzedek helps unaccompanied child immigrants stabilize their lives and resolve their uncertain legal status. By identifying and securing legal guardianship for these vulnerable children, the program ensures their physical and emotional well-being. Bet Tzedek is leading this national effort, training pro bono volunteers in these special proceedings and guiding state legislatures in the policy changes necessary to respond to this issue.
